How To Get Taxi Service In Anaheim - A Visitor and Tourist Viewpoint
1. Look around the City of Anaheim - While out on your local tour or shopping in Anaheim, or just taking the taxi-shuttle over to Disneyland, you will notice three dominant taxi schemes. The 3 licensed Anaheim Cab companies are: A White and Yellow Cab Inc. dba A Taxi Cab and dba Anaheim Yellow Cab, Cab Co Yellow Cab dba California Yellow Cab and Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County. Whats the difference in these taxis?
A. Type and Scheme - A White and Yellow Cab Inc, or Anaheim Yellow Cab (us) sports the white body with a yellow top and the "A" logo. Most Anaheim Yellow Cabs are the Ford Freestar Minivan Taxi. These fit up to 6 passengers with light luggage, or you guessed it...a few people and lots of luggage. California Yellow Cab sports all yellow bodies, some with a black trim around the kicker panels. Their logo is the outline of California, with "California Yellow Cab". Most of these are the Crown Victorias and some are CNG. Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County sports the all yellow look, with the triangle. Most are Crown Victorias, most are CNG, but there is an increase to use multi passenger vans, some being even full size.
B. Phone Numbers- A White and Yellow Cab Inc, or Anaheim Yellow Cab has the toll free numbers of 1(800)200-0000 and 1(800)4MY-TAXI. We also have multiple local numbers. You will see both toll free numbers on the outside of the cabs. California Yellow Cab also sports a toll free number and "text" a cab signage. Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County sports its own 800 toll free taxi-cab number and some units even have the website name on the back.
C. Dispatch Systems- All three cab services provide a form of computerized GPS dispatch. All 3 are proven performers with reporting capabilities and bells, with the whistles.
D. Management- All three taxicab companies are "full service" companies as defined by most taxi cab consultants. These perform maintenance, take calls, dispatch, respond to service queries, and do everything a typical cab company would do. Only Cab Co. and Yellow Cab of G OC have owner operators. All three companies use independent lease contractor drivers. The taxi companies receive their authority to operate in Anaheim via a Taxi Cab franchise with the City.
E. Anaheim Price and Rates - All three taxicab operators must follow the OCTAP regulations for fares allowed. However, they may charge less than the meter rate with a flat rate. A White and Yellow Cab Inc, or Anaheim Yellow Cab had the lowest verfied flat rates, as of 2009. Even if you receive a flat rate, the driver should still run the meter. You are entitled to the lower amount of the two.
F. Taxi Stand Locations in Anaheim - You can find all three cab companies co-existing alongside each other at most of the Disney and Convention Center area attractions. However, due to an exclusive agreement at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers, only Yellow Cab of Greater OC is allowed there. This has been of much concern to the other two taxi operations, as peak hours and large conventions drain all taxis away from the Hilton as it is. The latest peak problems included Anaheim Hilton guests having to hail a cab from the Anaheim Marriott stand. Hopefully, the management at the Hilton will see through this "taxi folly". The Anaheim Marriott provides access to all 3 companies, as it should.
G. Anaheim Taxi Response Times - All three cab companies provide about the same response times throughout the City of Anaheim. However, we estimate that during large conventions, the influx of visitors at the John Wayne or Orange County airports causes a shortage of cabs in the City. ( both competitors have contracts at JWA )
H. Taxi Quantity - A White and Yellow Cab Inc, or Anaheim Yellow Cab is licensed for 58 authorities. California Yellow Cab is also licensed for the same amount. Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County sports a fleet of over 100. However, if you take the number of unused Anaheim taxis into account sitting in their yard, and their fleet requirements at the JWA, you would find that all three are about equal during most times, quantity wise.
