Taxi to and from Disneyland

Disneyland has a selection of taxi and non-taxi choices.  Most hotels have shuttles going to and from the Disneyland Main Gate to their respective areas.   There is also an Anaheim coach that makes local stops.  Most people find these great, unless your outside the local area known as the Disneyland Resort.

Taxi: an appropriate choice with family at DisneyLand.
With the high cost of rental cars, in some cases it will be cheaper to use a shuttle, towncar, van or limo to get to and from the airport, and then use taxis to get around while you're at  Disney Land. By using taxis instead of a rental car you don't have to worry about parking fees, valet tips, car seat rental (most taxi vans at Disney World will provide them for free on request), or accident insurance. Plus, you will be dropped off at the front gate, won't have to remember where you parked, and your family will not have to climb into a hot car!

Disneyland Taxi and Cab Service

Anaheim Yellow Cab Taxi and Limo services is the major taxi company servicing the Disneyland and Disney Resort area.  We specialize in taxi and cab transportation to and from the Disney attractions.  Whether you need a ride to and from a hotel or just taking a hop down the street for some shopping, we provide multiple passengers one taxi rate.  WE do not charge by person.  Our comfortable 6 passenger minivans are well known for the room and convenience for families visiting the Disney area.

Other Disneyland taxis include two all Yellow cabs and ours, which are White with the Yellow top.  There is Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County and California Yellow Cab that you can choose from.  Special taxi franchise and permits are required to work in the City of Anaheim.

Disney Land Taxis  can be hailed from the Disneyland taxicab stand, located just outside the park, right next to Harbor Blvd.  Up to four taxis will be on standby at the staging area.  Other taxis will pull in as needed.  There are plenty of cabs waiting for the closing of Disneyland, just looking for tourists and hotel goers looking for rides back to their hotels.

Taxis in Disneyland areas include service for the California Adventure and not just the Main Disney Park.

Disneyland Taxi Rates  are the same for all companies.  Rates are set by OCTAP.  The driver must run the meter, even if he gives you a set rate or flat rate.  You have the right to pay the lower fare in that case.  You can also shop online for lower rates or lower flat rates.  Try sponsors below.
Disney Taxi Use
Using a taxi is especially terrific if you have little ones and decide to stay late in a theme park to enjoy the fireworks. Instead of rushing out with the crowds after the show and waiting for three Disney buses before it's your turn, you call a cab and get those tuckered-out kids back to the hotel in a fraction of the time.

Less Hassle
Even if you're staying on property, a taxi can drastically reduce the hassle factor of going out to the local Disney Grand Hotel or California Adventure.

Disneyland Taxi Cost
To get around the Disney area should seldom exceed $10 plus tip.  To get a general idea, use our taxi fare estimator if you know the mileage or refer to our common destinations in the Disney Resort Area.

Choice and tips
If you choose to use taxis to get around at Disneyland, here are some tips to remember:

Look for the "A" sticker on Anaheim Resort Taxis.  White taxis and yellow taxis are ok, provided they are Anaheim Taxi Franchise licensed.

If possible, have the front desk or valet parking staff at your hotel call 18004MYTAXI for you.  We maintain a high level of service and are the preferred vendor with Disneyland. The response will usually be faster than if you call yourself. If you are not staying at a Disney hotel, be sure to specify that you want 18004MYTAXI, because some non-Disney hotels have arrangements with overpriced "gypsy" cab companies.

You can also call for a cab directly, OUR NUMBER IS 1(800)200-0000.  This number dispatches cabs from US using GPS dispatch in the Anaheim Resort Area and especially around Disney properties.  If possible, carry a cell phone with you to call for service when away from your hotel.

If you are a group of 5 or more, be sure to request a taxi VAN, which has a capacity of up to6 people and does not cost more than a regular taxi sedan.

In addition to meter cost of the taxi ride, be sure to budget for a standard tip (approximately 15%) for the driver.

There have been several threads lately relating to transportation from various airports to the Disneyland Resort. I hope the following information will be useful to people in trying to determine which airport to fly into and how to get from the airport to the resort. This list is by no means exhaustive! I just know that when we were trying to figure out which airport to fly into, we were trying to compare the difference in costs of the airline tickets between LAX and John Wayne. We then wanted to factor in the costs of the ground transportation between the two airports. Having the bulk of the information would have been so helpful! I'm not advocating the use of any of the following companies. Some people like them, some people don't, some people may prefer to use another company not listed. I know others really prefer to rent a car and have transportation available throughout their trip. Whatever you choose, I hope this information can help you with your trip planning.

FAQ
1. Do I need to make reservations in advance? No reservations are necessary for taking the Disneyland Express from the airport to the hotel.

2. Do I need a car seat for my child? No car seats are recommended or required for the Disneyland Express (large tour-style bus).

That's the official word from the Grayline operators, but DISBoard members report there are times when the Express will stop at Grand Californian Hotel first. After that the DE will stop at the two other DLR hotels. Beyond the resort hotels, the stops will depend on which hotels the remaining passengers are staying, but it does stop at most major hotels in the Disneyland area.

FAQ

1. Do I need a car seat for my child? You are supposed to provide your own car seat if you have a child unless your child is 6 years old or 60 pounds. They do not provide car seats or boosters.

2. Do adults and children pay the same price? Children over three pay the same fare as an adult. Children three and younger are free.

The following information was generated from the Super Shuttle website using Disneyland Hotel as the destination from each airport. Each fare is based on a one-way trip. It's important to note that entering a hotel name vs. the DLR area zipcode can cause the quoted fares to be drastically different. Make certain that if you are running your own Super Shuttle quote, that you enter the name of the hotel where you are staying rather than the zipcode. It could save you a bit of money. *See Coupon Links below for a $3 off coupon code which will work well for SNA and LAX Super Shuttle Rides.

Taxi Information

*Flat Rates - Although websites from both the Long Beach and John Wayne airports report a flat fee being available, some DISBoard members have reported not being able to get the flate rates. It's also been noted that the flat rates are from the airport to one of the DLR hotels (rather than Good Neighbor hotels) and that the taxi fees from hotel back to the airport can be more expensive.

John Wayne/Orange County (SNA) Airport

The following information is from the John Wayne airport website (http://www.ocair.com/groundtransport/taxis.htm):

John Wayne Airport Yellow Cab Service: (800) 535-2211 or (714) 535-0156

"Taxi cabs and vans are always available in the Ground Transportation Center. Cabs seat up to 5 and vans up to 7 people. Look for coordinators who can assist you with your ground transportation needs.

Fares subject to change:
Meter rate: $2.95 first ¼ mile plus $0.65 per additional ¼ mile
Wait fee: $30.00 per hour (prorated $0.50 per minute)
Flat rates to destinations may be provided upon request."*

Long Beach Airport

The following information is from the Long Beach airport website
(http://www.longbeach.gov/airport/air.../shuttle.asp):

Long Beach Yellow Cab - (562) 435-6111

"Flat Fees* as of 12/2008, all fares are subject to change without notice.
$45 Disneyland or Anaheim Convention Center
The Long Beach Airport website also has an eight page list of authorized ground transportation providers including taxis, town cars, vans, and limos:
http://www.longbeach.gov/civica/file...p?BlobID=21929"

LAX

http://www.lawa.org/welcome_lax.aspx?id=942

"Taxis can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis. Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations. Only authorized taxis with an official seal issued by City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation on each vehicle are permitted in the airport. It is illegal for any transportation services to solicit fares, and travelers using such services do so at their own risk."

See website for list of authorized taxi companies and their phone numbers.

Limo Services

The following are limo services I have found mentioned by DISBoard members that have at least one positive review. I would strongly recommend getting current prices and asking for a recommendation here on the boards before booking, however.

I’ve read to avoid Starz Limo like the plague.

Amtrak

(This won’t help you get from a local airport to Disneyland Resort, but I’ve noticed people frequently ask about taking the train from San Diego, so thought I’d include the contact information here.)

Amtrak website: http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak
Anaheim Amtrak Station (2.3 miles from Disneyland Resort):
Station Building (with waiting room)
2150 East Katella Avenue
Anaheim Stadium Parking Lot
Anaheim, CA 92806

Ticket prices vary by date, time, and starting destination.

San Diego -- Most trips from San Diego" to "Anaheim" on the Surfliner are 2 hours long and cost $22. Holiday rates are higher.

Palm Springs -- Prepare for an entire day on the train. Most trips are "estimated" at just under 7 hours. That assumes that freight trains don't take priority on the tracks of the two trains you will be traveling (yes, you would have to transfer trains one time at Los Angeles Union Station). Cost would be around $28 - $45 depending on which train you took.

Please use the Amtrak website to get a current quote. Bumbershoot notes that the typical metered taxi fare from the train station to DLR runs about $13. (Thanks, Molly! )
